On 30 September, Cabinet agreed to repeal and replace the Medicines Act 1981 with a new Medical Products Bill. The Government intends that the Medical Products Bill will be passed in 2026 and come into effect around 2028. The Bill will include provisions to give existing products time to transition to the new regime.
Cabinet also agreed that natural health products will be regulated under a standalone bill also.
